What you'll need
- One family, picked through your church, not a list of eight
- A recurring call on the calendar that accounts for the time difference
- A care package a quarter, with the kids' drawings in it
- Your guest room, offered before they ask
Pitfalls
- Call when nothing's wrong. Support-raising conversations are the only calls most of them get.
- Ask about their kids by name. Missionary kids are the loneliest people in the whole arrangement.
- Watch their support level and speak up in your church when it dips. That's the job nobody does.
