Spend one Saturday with a ramp ministry building a wooden ramp so a neighbor who uses a wheelchair can get out their own front door.
What you'll need
- A local ramp ministry — search "wheelchair ramp ministry" or "SAWs" plus your state
- Work gloves, a cordless drill, and a circular saw if you own one
- Water and lunch; these builds run past noon
Pitfalls
- Let the crew lead handle the slope math. Ramps have to meet code or they're dangerous.
- You don't need carpentry skills. Somebody has to carry boards and hold things level.
- Meet the homeowner and learn their name. They've been stuck inside, sometimes for years.
