- A dollar cap you set in advance
- A pastor or benevolence chair who can route it
- The shop's invoice, paid directly — never cash to a person
Pitfalls
- Pay the mechanic, not the family. It protects everyone.
- Set the cap first. Open-ended offers get awkward for both sides.
- Really stay anonymous. Once they know, they owe you, and that changes the whole thing.
