Record the Bedtime Story
Storybook Dads programs record an incarcerated parent reading a bedtime story. Volunteers clean up the audio and mail the book and the recording home.
What you'll need
- A chaplain or reentry ministry running a recording program
- Basic audio editing, which you can learn in an evening
- Children's books, padded mailers, and postage
Pitfalls
- Leave the stumbles in. A dad reading imperfectly sounds like a dad. A clean take sounds like a stranger.
- Keep the message at the end, always. That's the part the kid replays.
- Mail it fast. Kids track time differently and a six-week delay wastes it.
