People walk everywhere and can rarely wash what they own, so socks wear out in weeks. It’s about the least glamorous donation there is, which is probably why so few people think to make it.
Give Socks First
Buy a 10-pack of new white crew socks and drop it at the nearest shelter. Socks are the most requested and least donated item there is.

- A 10-pack of new crew socks (white, size large)
- Optional — a second pack, because they will never have too many
Pitfalls
- New only. Nobody wants your old socks, and shelters can't take them.
- Skip the thin dress socks. Thick, plain, big.
- Hand them to the front desk, not to the first person you see — the staff know who's walking the most.
